What is our role?
The Parish Finance Committee, like in all parishes within the Archdiocese of Melbourne, serves as an advisory body to the Parish Priest, who is the sole administrator of the parish's temporal goods.
The committee supports the Parish Priest in managing parish finances, maintaining properties in Laverton, Altona Meadows, and Point Cook, and planning for future capital projects, including the presbytery, parish office, and church. While it provides advice, it is not directly involved in the day-to-day management of parish finances.
Key responsibilities include assisting the Parish Priest in:
Preparing the annual parish budget.
Drafting financial reports for parishioners and the annual financial report for the Archbishop.
Creating cashflow projections for future capital works and major maintenance needs.
The committee is made up of representatives from the parish community and the assistant priest. The parish accountant attends meetings to provide financial input but is not a member of the committee. Importantly, the Parish Priest is not a member of the committee, as its role is to advise and support him in his administrative duties.
